The gist of the thing is that Pfizer decided that because there are so few cases of coral snake bites per year, it’s not profitable to make antivenom anymore. They stopped making it like 5 years ago, in fact, and so the FDA just keep extending the expiration date on the current stock (the exp. date is currently Oct 2012).
